Hidden characters and TextGrain are different
Pasted text can contain zero-width spaces, non-breaking spaces or formatting controls from an editor, a website or the clipboard. They can cause awkward spacing, failed searches and text that looks the same but does not match. You can inspect their exact code points and positions with the tool above.
TextGrain marks the words a model chooses. Removing a zero-width space leaves those words unchanged. Copying as plain text removes rich formatting, but does not erase a statistical pattern in the wording. Editing may weaken detection; it does not guarantee that a watermark is gone.

ChatGPT watermark remover questions
Does ChatGPT watermark its text?
OpenAI announced a phased rollout of textGrain for eligible ChatGPT and Codex text in the EU on October 5, 2026. It is a statistical signal in word choices. The announcement does not mean every response is watermarked. API watermarking is opt-in for select models and off by default.
Can this tool remove the TextGrain watermark?
This tool cleans selected Unicode characters. It does not change word choices or remove the TextGrain statistical signal. OpenAI initially limits its text detector to approved researchers and expert organizations. A character count is not a watermark score.
What does the ChatGPT watermark remover clean?
The default removes zero-width spaces. After inspecting, you can also choose byte order marks, soft hyphens, word joiners, special spaces and bidirectional controls. Special spaces become ordinary spaces so words stay separated. Characters from copy-paste are not proof of AI authorship.
Will it change my writing or break emoji?
Your wording, punctuation, ordinary line breaks and tabs stay intact. Emoji joiners, writing-system joiners and variation selectors are always preserved. Other controls are flagged for review. You choose any optional cleanup that could affect formatting.
Is my text uploaded or saved?
Cleaning runs in your browser. Your text is not uploaded, saved on a server or sent to an AI model. Closing or reloading this page clears the text. Optional analytics never include what you paste.
Is there a limit, and do I need an account?
No account or payment is needed. Each input supports up to 100,000 UTF-16 code units. Most common characters use one unit; some emoji use two or more. You can copy the result or download it as a UTF-8 .txt file.
