TextGrain Open-Source Status
OpenAI's October 5 announcement plans an open-source release, but does not link an official repository or specify a release date. The technical report is available. Our October 6 check of OpenAI's public GitHub organization returned no TextGrain repository; that search is not a guarantee about future or unlisted releases.
Official announcement, access guide and technical report reviewed October 6, 2026. Availability below distinguishes announced rollout from verified access. This site is independent and does not offer a TextGrain detector.
Report, code and access are different milestones
| Milestone | What it establishes | Current evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Technical publication | The method and its assumptions can be read. | Official PDF retrieved and read October 6, 2026. |
| Source-code release | A specific repository and license can be inspected. | Planned in the announcement; no official repository verified. |
| Local experimental detection | Your own generation and detector can use a matching key. | No implementation tested on this site. |
| Production watermark detection | Access to a detector configured for production text. | Not implied by code publication. |
What an eventual release needs to show
Before linking a repository, verify it through an official announcement or organization. Check the license, version, supported tokenizer and configuration, maintenance status and reproducible instructions. We will not publish a release date, countdown or installation recipe before verifying those details.
Change record
Official October 5 announcement, access guide and technical report reviewed. Text detection requires approved-organization access. Open-source release remains an announced plan; no repository or installation procedure is claimed as available here.
Keep the right expectation
An experimental detector using your own key answers a different question from testing another provider's text. Learn how keyed detection works and what detection can establish. You may opt into important updates below; no priority access or publishing schedule is promised.
