A careful cleanup, from start to finish

  1. Paste plain text or load the labeled example.
  2. Inspect the characters and review their counts and positions.
  3. Choose which categories to clean. Uncertain categories are off by default.
  4. Compare your original and cleaned text, then copy the result.

What stays and what changes

Only zero-width spaces are selected initially. Special spaces can be replaced with ordinary spaces, never simply joined away. BOM, soft hyphens, word joiners and bidirectional controls require an explicit choice. Newlines, tabs, emoji joining controls, variation selectors and writing-system joiners remain intact. Quotes, dashes and Markdown are not rewritten.

Example and positions

In the example, a zero-width space sits between “Hello” and its visible space. Removing that code point leaves “Hello world”. The occurrence list names each code point and shows its line, column, code-point position and UTF-16 offset. Counts cover all input; the position preview is limited to 200 entries for readability.

Privacy and limits

The maximum input is 100,000 UTF-16 code units. Scanning and cleaning happen entirely in your browser. Your text is not sent to our server, analytics or an AI provider and is not stored by this site. Only pasted plain text is supported. If clipboard access fails, the result remains available for manual copying.

Is this a TextGrain remover?

No. Character cleanup does not test or verify the removal of a statistical watermark. Hidden characters are not evidence of AI authorship. Read the methods comparison or TextGrain principles for the distinction.
